Wedding Inspiration: Like Water For Chocolate Inspired Shoot

Happy Monday! I think Charlie is finally kicking this cold, and I’m busy getting ready for another road trip back to the beach. Hopefully this time we’ll actually go to the beach! Either way, its always nice to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, and have extra hands and eyes on Charlie so I can get a little break. Today’s styled shoot is bringing all the color, and I am here for it!

This Like Water For Chocolate styled shoot pays homage to Mexican culture with beautiful details from the film and book. Food and passion is the basis of the famous, Mexican film, based on the novel by Laura Esquivel. Through magical realism, the tale portrays the life of two forbidden lovers, Tita and Pedro, as they navigate their yearning for each other, which has many hard obstacles.

One element that makes the film so unique, is the importance of the food that Tita cooks. Characters in the film physically react to Tita’s cooking because she literally pours her heart and soul into her creations. Naturally, some of the key details of this Like Water for Chocolate wedding inspiration are intertwined with food! Starting with the centerpiece, it’s basically all food-based items; a molcajete stone, limes, Jarritos sodas, dried peppers. There is also a charming mini camper solely used for a drink station.

At the sweetheart table, you see a quote from the book and rose petals sprinkled everywhere. Alluding to when Tita was yearning for her lover so intensely, she manifests her passions for him through a special meal made with rose petals given to her by Pedro. There are matches on each plate that serve as a symbol of the ultimate act of love made by Pedro and Tita so they could live in bliss together in the spirit world forever. The union of their bodies and spirits set fire to the entire ranch, and the only remnant left of their love was Tita’s recipe book. Luckily, the matches for the shoot were made out of pretzel sticks so there wouldn’t be any spontaneous fires created from love!

All of these touches truly capture the essence of Tita and Pedro’s unwavering love for each other, and are sure to reflect on the love between the bride and groom.

We also wanted to include traditional aspects of Mexican culture. The one-of-a-kind embroidered wedding dress adds beautiful colors and patterns that mimic traditional Mexican dresses. Beautiful floral patterns were woven throughout the wedding as well; on the cake, wedding dress, wedding invitations, flower pots, and even the arbor used the same vibrant floral pattern. Vibrant pinks, greens, yellows, and blues are seen everywhere – really drawing attention to the small details.
