Anyone else hoping they’d wake up today and find out this was one, big elaborate April Fool’s Joke? Since we’re hunkering down at home, I’ve made it a goal to clear out our freezer, and make a dent in our pantry. Meal planning for the week on Sunday has really helped, not only with clearing our freezer and pantry, but also in simplifying my daily routine. Our CSA is supposed to start back up again next week, so I’m looking forward to getting some farm fresh produce, meat, and eggs, all while supporting local farms during this time. I did have to venture to Trader Joe’s yesterday for a few staples, and was pleasantly surprised by how well stocked it was.
Today’s wedding is a fun one, to help you get over the mid-week hump. Michael & Liz were so much fun to work with, and the reception really captured their spirit. I have never seen such a packed dance floor for the ENTIRE reception. No joke – from the minute the dancing started, it was packed until the very last song, and we were kicking people out! They had so many personal touches with the family pictures and heirlooms throughout the decor, and they rocked the fall theme! The couple chose to have a Fall wedding, their favorite season, and included seasonal elements in the decor and menu, including DIY decorative gourd arrangements for centerpieces, and a fall-themed Dark & Stormy garnished with cinnamon sticks and apple slices as their signature cocktail.
The wedding took place at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Southwest Washington, DC, and featured readings highlighting their love for God, each other, and family and friends, both those present to celebrate their marriage, and those that could not be there.
The couple chose The Congressional Club as their venue as it provides an ambience that embodies the history and energy of Washington, DC, the place they’ve both chosen as their home. While including many quintessential Washington, DC elements, including monument themed table numbers, the couple also used the menu to pay tribute to their shared West Coast roots, serving specialty California and Oregon beer and wine, and western-inspired dishes including cedar-wrapped salmon fillets and miniature banh mi sandwiches.
The father of the bride and the sister of the groom offered toasts to the newly married couple after dinner and afterwards the dancing began, with the couples aim of getting every wedding guest on the dance floor accomplished in short order!
