I hope all the mom’s out there (moms to be, moms that were, moms that WANT to be, surrogate moms, aunts, grandma’s & all of those in between). We had a really nice, albeit exhausting weekend with family. Friday night I got to go to a Mother-Daughter tea party at Evie’s school and it was a-dorable. Add that to the LONG list of “things I cannot believe I am doing / am at this stage in my life …. ” lol. Saturday we had a relaxing morning, before packing up the car to head to Philly. I got to watch my incredible older sister EXCEL in her space, Director’s Gathering, at a super-cool art studio, where amazing womxn directors put on short theater pieces (that they wrote, practiced, directed and then performed to us attendees) in four hours. It was INCREDIBLE. Pieces on: maternal mortality (especially for women of color & black women), white supremacy, erasing Black Women, information overload & ‘clickbait’ media, and climate change. It was INCREDIBLE. Then we had a wonderful brunch with my OWN mom to celebrate the day.
Other than the fact that Conrad is back on a sleep strike, and driving 4 hours on 95 in the pouring rain yesterday, it was a fabulous weekend. I hope you all had a great one too. I’m gearing up for a day-long conference downtown tomorrow for the day job, and already looking forward to another weekend – this time without travel & hopefully nicer weather. But let’s get to today’s post: a sweet family session that turned into a SURPRISE proposal. Happy Monday all!
From the photographer:
Jhi told Kim that they were going to Meridian Hill Park for a family portrait session. Little did she know, Jhi had other plans!
We started the session with a few pictures around the park with Jhi’s son, Justin, but soon moved in front of the fountain for the big moment.
I asked Kim to stand with her back to Jhi for a certain pose, and Jhi knew this was our pre-determined cue. He knelt down, called out her first AND middle names, and she turned around so fast! Kim was caught completely off guard, and I’m so glad I got to capture this special moment for them.
