You can certainly tell that wedding season is upon us – I had 3 wedding meetings this weekend, and somehow found time to squeeze in some Barre3, some time at Rhode Island Ave Porchfest with the Fam, and a (kinda pathetic) run. One of my meetings was about a 2020 wedding and GOODNESS I am not wholly ready to start thinking about NEXT YEAR already! This year still feels to early and like I have SO MANY THINGS still to do / come this year that I can’t really comprehend thinking about next year yet … but here we are! Evie’s on Spring Break next week, and the day job is about to go into over drive … so as usual, I’ll do my best to blog but no promises :)
We met online in December of 2011, but quickly discovered that we had some connections that made it feel a bit like fate. One of my close friends/sorority sisters went to preschool with Jimmy, and it turns out he and I overlapped a year at JMU. After seeing how well he got along with my very opinionated best friend during our first in-person meeting, I knew he was a keeper.
Five years and two cats later, we picked out a ring together at Ketterman’s, so I kind of knew it was coming. A few days later he took me to Il Canale in Georgetown for dinner, then suggested a walk along the waterfront. As we were walking I could tell he was nervous, but it was still such a delightful shock when he pulled me towards the Labyrinth and got down on one knee. You can see the tear-induced mascara tracks on my face in the selfie we took immediately after! Turns out Jimmy had been planning to propose at the waterfront since I casually mentioned how romantic it was over a year before. A great listener, and handsome to boot!
We weren’t sure if we really wanted engagement photos at first, but after deciding took Porter Watkins as our wedding photographer we couldn’t pass having extra photos of our cuteness. :) We knew we wanted to go back to Georgetown for our engagement session, and she was so helpful in finding all the prettiest spots around the neighborhood. I had no idea the graffiti park was there, and since we wanted some casual photos of us in our Star Wars shirts it fit the vibe so well, then we had some more formal-ish photos to share with the family. We weren’t super interested in having overly posed or staged photos, so it was so great that she captured our genuine affection for each other over the course of the session.
