Instead of listing all the reasons why I couldn’t get a blog post up that was practically, entirely done, for me – I’ll hit you up with some fun highlights of ALL The things going on. Buckle Up – it’s June (where did May go?!), I got older (hello 34), we spent a weekend in Philly, and then two glorious weekends in DC just enjoying the sun & the city (and allll the spray parks), and did some celebrating with friends/family for my birthday too :) We’re trying to knock out yard work while we can, and Evie had about 300 things going on at school – which ends a week from Friday (seriously where is time going!?!?) Conrad will be one in a blink, and we’re staring down two vacations in the next 5 weeks, a potential business trip to Denver (the week before we go back to Denver for one of said vacations), a 4th of July short week (with a wedding to boot), and a wedding this weekend.
Yeah, so … things are busy? But when aren’t they in this crazy life!? Oh, we also found a small amount of time to get some super rad rainbow-ified CapRo gear up in the online store. Order today to get it in time for DC’s Pride festivities this weekend – and 10% of proceeds go to Victory Fund. Check it out, then hop back to check out today’s super gorgeous DC wedding :) Let’s do this Monday.
We wanted to have a classic DC night with our closest friends and family, with beautiful surroundings, delicious food, dancing, and, of course, laughter. We chose the timeless colors of navy and grey for everything from wedding party attire to linens and decorations. Our flowers were mostly white and were a clean, gorgeous accent to the historical details and architecture of our venue (a DC historical building).
We took our engagement photos at the Tidal Basin with the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial in the background, so to check off a few more historic DC locations, our wedding day portraits started at the Hotel Monaco (where we stayed for the weekend and got ready the day-of), then continued at the Supreme Court (we are lawyers after all), Capitol, and Library of Congress. We joined our families and wedding party at the National Building Museum and Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (where I clerked our first year living in DC) for group photos before heading to the venue.
We can never get enough of marble, so not only was it in many of our photos but also on our plates. As for DIY, all of the wedding signs and decorations besides flowers were created by Sarah, including our table signs which were made with vintage postcards of DC monuments (found by Tony’s father).
We also DIYed our music. We absolutely love music and know what we like, plus the venue was quite small so having an iPad hooked up to the sound system seemed ideal — and it worked out great!! On our RSVP cards we took song requests, which we combined with our favorite songs, then Tony meticulously planned out ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dancing music. An important thing for us was to experience the same wedding, to have the same memories from the night, so besides necessary exceptions we stayed within five feet of each other the whole night. It was an incredible aspect to our wedding, and we would recommend it to anyone!
In lieu of speeches, we had toasts (with suggested time limits that were respected by the toast makers and greatly appreciated by the guests) by the maid of honor, best man, Sarah’s brother/bridesman, and both fathers. We preempted our own first dance during the salad course when Tony asked Sarah to join him on the dance floor. This caused some confusion among the guests, but it mirrored our normal life dancing around our kitchen while cooking, and everyone got to see our rehearsed dance (we took lessons!) a short time later.
