What a weekend Romancers. It started ‘early’ with our day care being closed on Friday (which almost always seems to happen when Andy travels for work). My parents graciously decided to come down to help me with E all weekend …. and it ended up taking them over 6 hours to get here because of bridge closures all over 95. Things rounded out though with dragging my mom to Barre (she loved me for it ;), getting to sleep in a few mornings (what even is that anymore!?) and mostly just getting to spend some time with the most important people in life: family.
So, keeping the family appreciation and love flowing into Monday, with sharing my beautiful baby sister (OK, she’s a grown-ass adult, but will always be my baby sister to me!) & her fiance’s engagement session up in Vermont!! They will be tying the knot there later this year, and it’s going to be GORGEOUS for so many reasons. They’ve compiled a rockstar vendor team and it’s going to be a truly magical long weekend with some of the best people, celebrating the best things: love & family. Happy Monday Romancers.
We were freshman at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Nick was on the soccer team and Kristen was on the field hockey team. Nick’s high school friend, and Kristen’s teammate, introduced us during pre-season. We realized that we were in the same Mandatory Freshman Course. We spent hours studying together, cheering for each other on and off the field, and exploring the city together. Despite everyone telling them they would end up together, they refused to believe it. Sophomore year came and Nick drove from Maryland to surprise Kristen in New Jersey during Thanksgiving break.
It was during this visit that Nick, finally, asked Kristen (two times) to be his girlfriend.
Nick became family fast when Kristen’s family lost Babci (her grandmother) and Grandpa Harrison within months of each other in the Spring of 2013. Kristen knew Nick was “the one” when he changed his diet and started a “gluten-free” diet (minus the beer part) in college. Kristen fell more in love with Nick on weekly sushi-dates, seeing Broadway shows together and sharing the love for traveling. Nick and Kristen traveled to Europe for 3-weeks after college graduation. We locked our love on the love lock bridge in Cologne, Germany, the first stop of many on their trip. It was then when Nick knew Kristen was “the one”.
After college, Kristen started working as a Medical-Oncology RN at MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Nick completed his Masters in Biomedical Engineering at CUA and landed a job at Accenture as an IT Consultant. Nick adopted our dog, Max from Sleep’s Dream pit-bull rescue. The three of us live together in Arlington, VA.
On June 27, 2017 while up in Vermont on a yearly summer vacation at the Harrison family lake house, #CampWannaBeeHere, Nick took Kristen out on a canoe ride at sunset. With Kristen’s brother-in-law Andy (CapRo Husband) hiding on the bridge to take pictures, Nick gave Kristen the surprise of her life and asked her to marry him! It was such a great way to start the family vacation off, especially since nobody knew Nick’s plan (except Kristen’s parents and Andy).
Vermont has become, for obvious reasons, such a special place for them so they could not have imagined having the wedding anywhere else. Luckily Nick now works with Kristen’s sister Bree so he gets everyday consulting from Mrs. Capitol Romance herself! They are so thankful for the love and support that everyone has given them, and they cannot wait to tie the knot in October! #CivettiOrKnot (here we come!)
