I love the simplicity of at home/backyard weddings. They always take the focus back to what a wedding day really should be all about: the couple & their marriage. Colleen & John got married in Colleen’s grandparent’s backyard surrounded only by 20 of their closest friends and family and their adorable son Jack. They used a modern, Fall color palette (pumpkins, but pops of a royal blue and wild flowers – LOVE) and incorporated some fun family traditions into the day. Happy Thursday Romancers.
They both got ready in her grandparent’s home as well in a very relaxed environment. Guests gathered on the deck over looking the back yard for the nuptials and then dined in the backyard together at one long table. At the beginning of the ceremony the couple and their guests let balloons go with the names of loved ones who had passed and couldn’t be with them on the day. It was an evening of smiles, laughs, tears, and love.
A tradition they had during dinner was what is called a “Pop Shot”, in the brides words “my great-grandfather would have an after dinner shot with all of his son-in-law’s after a family get together while the wives cleaned, this is my grandmother’s father, she is one of 4 girls. Ever since then it has been a tradition to take a pop shot at larger family get togethers whether or not your shot glass is filled with water or alcohol.”
