Andrea & Nate’s Colorful, Offbeat Maryland Wedding at American Visionary Arts Museum

I mean COME ON. A bride rocking short red hair? With tattoos? An AWESOME wedding color palette? Mismatched bridesmaids dresses AND set at the American Visionary Arts Museum?! I mean, what else can I say?! I am IN LOVE with this Maryland wedding. Abram (of A.E. Landes Photography) emailed me about being a fellow PSU alum (we are!) and then dropped THIS stunner of a wedding in my inbox and I was pumped. I hope to have more awesome weddings like this from Abram. Happy Thursday all!

We chose AVAM because we are both art lovers. Nate teaches music, and I teach visual art. The quirkiness of the venue made it so easy to incorporate lots of DIY details, like our table adjective flags. We chose adjectives instead of numbers because we wanted our guests to feel really special. For us, the most important part of our wedding planning process was creating our dream party, where we and everyone that we love could feel loved and joyful.

We used Mobtown Florals for our chuppah, centerpieces, and bouquets. Brigid was amazing to work with and really saw my vision. She was great about recommending flowers that would fit in our color scheme and compliment my handmade elements. When I first saw Nate standing under our gorgeous cedar pole chuppah , I was in awe (Nate looked good too). She has an incredible eye for visually integrating her work into the venue.

Likewise, our caterer was able to bring the aesthetic of the museum into the plating of dinner. One memorable course was the salad, which used segmented vegetables to mimic the mosaic exterior of the museum. The smoky dry ice at the ice cream station also brought a great sense of playfulness to our reception.

I was really proud of the hand painted name tags I made for each guest, and I was very lucky to have my bridesmaid’s help. Nate’s favorite detail was the inclusion of dinosaur elements, both in our name tags and our cake topper. Nate and I got matching dinosaur tattoos about a year after we met, and we thought our mutual love for giant extinct reptiles would add a fun and quirky touch to our big day.

We were so happy to see that Abram was able to bring the lively color and mood of our big day into our wedding photography. We love re-living every moment each time we look at the pictures.
