Sometimes I do things unintentionally that work out – like scheduling Lindsey & Beto’s NE DC engagement session at the Franciscan Monastery, the same week as scheduling a wedding at the same place! Two monastery events, same week!
Turns out the Franciscan Monastery in DC also makes for a fabulous “old world” DC wedding venue at the St. Francis Hall on the grounds. The venue is stunning with its brick and gothic archways and luckily the talented Leo Druker Photography was on hand to capture not only the couple’s beautiful, personal DC wedding – but the stunning venue as well. Emily & Rick’s Old World Washington DC Wedding at St. Francis Hall
Vendors:
About the couple:
We met while working at the Red Sox ticket office at Fenway Park. We both love baseball (go Nats!), and beyond that we both share a love of good food and drink and traveling. Over the years we’ve lived together in Boston, Italy, and now Washington DC.
About their DC wedding venue selection:
We were married at St. Francis Hall in Northeast DC. We put a deposit down on the place without ever seeing it in person because we liked it so much from the photos and if we didn’t act fast the date would have been gone. We loved the old world feel of the hall with the gothic chandeliers, brick walls, wooden beams, and archways everywhere.

Emily & Rick wrote their own vows ~ we know how I love this:
We wrote our own vows, which were a big hit. We didn’t share them with each other before the ceremony, so it was fun to hear what we each had to say, especially since they ended up being so similar.
A friend of ours officiated the wedding, and it was really special having someone we know marry us. She did a great job and it made our ceremony feel so much more personal to us.
whimsical weiner dog coasters – freakin’ LOVE this!
Details on some of their DIY wedding projects:
Neither of us are much of DIYers, but one element we did make ourselves were the name cards, which we made out of coasters. We found a bunch of images representing some of our favorite things and put them on coasters. Instead of table numbers we used those images, so our guests matched the image on their coaster to their table.
Our programs were also 100% DIY. We didn’t have the final details ready in time to print them with the rest of our stationary, so Rick worked some magic in PhotoShop to design something totally unique to us.
Emily’s Mom is much more crafty. She built a welcome sign that beautifully incorporated the design from our stationary.
Food was a really important part of the wedding to us, and we had some amazing passed appetizers such as mini-short rib tacos, bresaola pouches with gorgonzola and lamb meatballs. We also love DC’s local beer scene, and we had a keg of beer from Chocolate City, which is right down the road from St. Francis Hall.
Emily’s Mom colluded with the DJ to play Sweet Caroline mid-way through the reception. Sweet Caroline is played during the 8th inning of every Red Sox game, and Sox fans get really into singing along. We were led out to the middle of the dance floor, our friends and family surrounding us with mini-Red Sox banners in hand, and we all rocked out.
Congratulations Emily & Rick, thank you both for sharing your beautiful Washington, DC wedding with us! A special thanks again to Leo Druker Photography & Two Bright Lights for making this wedding feature possible!

Thanks so much for having Emily & Rick on! :)
I do have a question about the space. I came across St. Francis Hall before but their website seemed to express that wedding ceremonies are not permitted anywhere on the grounds. Were you really married there or did you have a separate venue? I absolutely love this space too but I would like to find a space that I could have both my ceremony and reception.
