I think most of you know me by now and have come to expect my Monday morning posts to hover around an 11am publication time. For those that are new here – well, please excuse my Monday morning tardiness. Monday mornings and I are NOT friends, and I try my best to be tolerant, but she is just so difficult to work with ;)
I digress. Once I get going with the posts, it always suddenly brightens my day. And this morning is no exception with Kalsoom & Jay’s vibrant engagement session amidst some of Washington, DC’s most awesome street art. This funky, fun, inner-city engagement session comes to us from DC wedding photographers, An Endless Pursuit [always a pleasure] via Two Bright Lights.
Kalsoom & Jay’s Washington, DC Street Art Engagement Session on U St & Logan Circle
From the bride on why they wanted their engagement session in Washington, DC:
So much of mine and Jay’s relationship has been centered around Washington, D.C. – it’s the city where we met, (in graduate school), fell in love, began our careers, and where my family now lives.
I’m passionate about the DC you don’t see in the tourist photographs or guide books. I love the eclectic side of the city – the undiscovered street art in hidden alleys, the unique store fronts, the lush greenery transposed against urban street life, the diversity.
I really wanted our engagement shoot to fully encompass that side of the city – so we began in my (soon to be our) neighborhood in Logan Circle and wandered around, finding inspiration amid unassuming city blocks.
Kalsoom & Jay are clearly my kind of couple – I LOVE the eclectic side of DC too. And I love it even more when couples take advantage of it for their engagement session.
Jay and I were incredibly awkward around a camera (or actually just I was) – making An Endless Pursuit’s work a bit harder – but the photographs they shot not only captured the reason we love this city, but also the organic and honest moments between Jay and me.
I don’t think you look awkward at all Kalsoom!! But, it is important to note that this is why picking a photographer that works well with your personality (especially if it is of a shy & awkward nature) is so important!

We’ll be getting married October 27, 2012 at the Omni Shoreham in Washington D.C. Given that I’m Pakistani and Jay is American, our wedding will be a fusion of our different cultures and will represent us as a couple, as well as the people we love so dearly.
[cannot WAIT to see these wedding pictures already! — hint hint An Endless Pursuit ;) ]
Jay’s mom Linda, who’s an artist, is designing our wedding invitations, my brother Mesh, a musician, is writing & performing the song I walk down the aisle to, and my cousin Sumanah, an amazing poet, will be reading a poem she wrote for us during the ceremony.
^LOVING the family involvement in this wedding already! Her brother writing/performing a song for the processional? Just amazing!
Kalsoom left me with this:
We want everyone to walk away that night thinking two things: 1) that wedding stayed true to Jay & Kalsoom, and 2) that was a DAMN fun party.
Turns out we had the EXACT same goals for our wedding :)
Congratulations Kalsoom & Jay – cannot wait to see your wedding pictures this fall! A special thanks again to An Endless Pursuit & Two Bright Lights for making this DC engagement feature possible!
