“That’s the way the cookie crumbles”… or, in this case, it doesn’t. Because everything went *perfectly* according to the (carefully curated!) plan and the guests devoured delicious cookie sandwiches, leaving no crumbs behind. Kira and Alex’s wedding was one to highlight the beauty of DC living, on one of those gorgeous October-in-DC days. The vendor team excelled at every turn. And their family and friends showed up to celebrate in style! Read on for more of Kira and Alex’s day that turned into a delicious Captain Cookie-filled night.
They began their day with photos around Capitol Hill, a natural choice since Kira works as a reporter focusing on elections and criminal justice. Kira and Alex allowed their shared values to infuse the entire day. From their choice to be married in DC, to passionate speeches from family and friends, to encouraging donations to their favorite charities in lieu of gifts.
Eaton DC Hotel, Capitol Hill, and the iconic Eastern Market made for great photo ops with the talented Darcy Troutman behind the lens. The couple even visited some market vendors before they closed for the day.
Their ceremony took place under string lights and a modern metal chuppah adorned with greenery, surrounded by a display of glass mosaic globes made by the bride’s mother. Family and friends offered the traditional seven blessings and even conducted their service. Then it was time to enjoy cocktails outside on the Plaza!
After cocktails as the sun set guests moved back inside to find the hall transformed. A long head table centered on the dance floor with a mix of long and round tables adding interest. Some VERY tall leafy centerpieces drew the eye up to the architecture of Eastern Market’s Great Hall. (Thanks Bee Inspired Events!) Dark blue runners added depth to the tabletop. And each table number featured a photo of the bride and groom at that age (e.g. ages 5 for Table 5) – who doesn’t love a walk down memory lane as you find your seat?!
Toasts were emceed by a friend. While all were memorable – truly! this was a gifted group of public speakers! – the Father of the Groom truly stole the show. He plugged into the DJ‘s setup and played clips of songs to highlight his heartfelt messages to the couple – we laughed, we cried, it was a playlist for the ages.
After the dancing began, Kira and Alex thanked their guests with a special late-night surprise. DC-favorite Captain Cookie truck pulled up with cookie sandwiches made with locally sourced ice cream. The line was long but moved quickly as guests devoured the treats and returned to the dance floor.
Congratulations to Kira & Alex on a beautiful day celebrating DC and your love!
