Anyone else feel like they need a vacation after their vacation? I feel like I’m still trying to get settled back in at home after being away, and I am not feeling this heat and humidity. You’d think after living here for 14 years, I’d be used to it. Justin and I will be celebrating our 6th anniversary next week, and we still need to figure out what we’re going to do. Washington, DC – home of history and half-smokes, go-go and government, brunch and bounce beats!! The people, the music, the culture, the cuisine – DC literally has it all! It is the melting pot of the world, but there’s NOTHING like being a native! It is in homage to the place we call home that we curated a “Chocolate City Love Affair” wedding editorial.
Once affectionately called, “Chocolate City” because of its predominantly Black population, this shoot was designed to honor the local culture of DC through the lens of the Black native Washingtonian experience.
The design aesthetic for the shoot is urban decadence – tattoos showing, locks tight, swag on 1,000 – we are going full blown grit, graffiti, and glam. Our featured model couple is DC royalty, Beat Ya Feet legend, John “Crazy Legz” Pearson, and his gorgeous wife, Danyelle. And the shoot colors are about as DC as you can get; red and white, the colors of the DC flag.
As DC is equal parts street art, historical architecture, and museum exhibits, we took a modern approach to sourcing the featured venues for this shoot. And since brunch is LIFE, and incredible food and beverage is essential to any Washingtonian lifestyle, we put a luxe spin on some local favorite dishes.
A native Washingtonian is full of Life and culture, and we wanted to translate that zeal for city living through the scenes captured within the shoot. Most of the participating creatives are native Washingtonians, and A “Chocolate City Love Affair” is our visual love letter to the District!
