What a weekend. Where do I even begin? Friday was a crazy work-from-home day, with a super fun hourly consulting gig smack in the middle of the day. As I was walking into my meeting (15 minutes late of course), I saw none other than Emma Gonzalez, one of the inspiring students from Parkland, sitting outside the Teaism I was about to enter. I was TOTALLY starstruck, and could only get out a “Hi” … and then went inside where I was immediately filled with regret for not thanking her, or saying more to her, or taking a freakin’ picture with her! Alas, it didn’t put too much of a damper on an incredible weekend: we marched, we saw old friends we haven’t seen in years, and capped it all off with the Own It Summit. I’ll have a lot more to share about both the #MarchForOurLives and the Summit, but for today we have a super awesome DC mural engagement session to get to. One of our #CapRoWedding couples, that totally rocked their e-sess thanks to Shawnee Custalow. Let’s get to some LOVE to start the week, shall we?
Like many couples in DC, we were brought together by our mutual friend, the Internet. Richard responded to Jenny’s well-written, carefully though-out first message about the Serial podcast with “…” which pretty much sums up our entire relationship. On our first date, we immediately bonded over a shared love of spreadsheets and hatred of WMATA.
In other words, we’ve pretty much always been a completely stereotypical DC couple and wanted our wedding to reflect how much we love the city that brought us together.
Richard proposed to Jenny by taking her back to the place where they first saw each other: right outside the Petworth metro station. Jenny used some light profanity to express her incredulity about what was happening, but eventually said yes. Richard then said yes too just to make things fair.
