Is it too early for a Cherry Blossom engagement feature? I think not! I am SO ready for some warmer temps and this is totally getting me in the mood. Plus, Jess & Kim are also huge How I Met Your Mother Fans (me too!) so that iconic yellow umbrella made an appearance in their adorable engagement pictures at the Jefferson Memorial. I can’t get over how much FUN they seem to be having during the engagement pictures. It’s always so refreshing to see a couple’s personality like this, instead of just a bunch of awkwardly posed photos for engagement features. Thanks to Jordan Baker Photography for the images!
Jess & Kim emailed me their engagement AND wedding – so we’ll be back this afternoon with their awesome, personalized real wedding too!

How they met:
We met at a backyard barbecue on Memorial Day Weekend in 2011. Jess had spent a year and a half living in Zambia where she worked with a girl named Sara, who would go on to sit next to Kim at work. Meanwhile, when Jess came back to the U.S., Sara convinced her to move to D.C. When a few coworkers put together a last minute barbecue, Sara invited Jess to introduce her to some of her friends in D.C. Kim almost blew it when, in an effort to chat her up more, he asked her to be on his team for cornhole… forgetting that that means you stand on opposite sides. Luckily for us, Jess gave him a second chance.

The Proposal Story:
It was important to us that we make the decision to get married as a couple, but Kim insisted that the proposal itself still be a surprise. Kim always loved Dupont Circle, and the day he got the ring from the ring shop was President’s Day – a working holiday for him but a day off for her. So with the fake excuse of an offsite meeting at a partner firm up near Dupont, he convinced Jess to come meet him to try out DGS for lunch. In the meantime, he had arranged for two of their friends to hide out on the circle’s benches: a male friend with an iPod dock and speakers, and a female friend with a camera. When we walked past, he starting playing our song over the speakers and she started snapping pictures. Kim asked Jess to dance in the middle of the circle, and then bent down on one knee, and she said yes! Then our friends pulled out some champagne and cigars. It was perfect!
Thanks again to Jess & Kim for sharing their love story & for Jordan Baker Photography for sharing the images! We’ll be back in a flash with their awesome wedding this afternoon so check back!
