This isn’t the first Union Market DC Engagement session we’ve featured and hopefully it won’t be the last. I am an absolute SUCKER for e-sessions that include the less traditional and non-glamorous sides of DC. I think I am also super biased on this particular location because this is in my neighborhood ;) Any couple that is down for the overall ‘grungy-ness” of shooting in front of dilapidated and boarded up buildings (oh and a dude moving trash) is my kind of couple. A thanks to Megan Noonan Photography for sending this DC engagement session our way!
Kali & Jason’s Alternative Washington DC Engagement Session at Union Market

How they met:
I met Jason through mutual friends 8 years ago. At the time we were both involved with other people but we formed a friendship that would last. After several years Jason says hearing me speak of possibly moving away made something click and he realized he couldn’t let me go without telling me how he felt. We started dating and now three years later we’re getting married! I think we both feel as if we are marrying our best friends and we look forward to spending the rest of our lives together.

From the photographer:
Kali and Jason are a really fun, creative, laid back couple. When they showed up to the location, I was a little nervous that they might be put off by the “grungyness” of it all, but they fully embraced it and were willing to do some really fun stuff. A few images in there were captured at the back of the Market in front of what seemed to be an old deli car. I positioned them in front for some shots and this guy started walking past with two huge garbage bins. Fortunately, he kept walking, and Kali and Jason kept their pose. The Union Market location really afforded us the kind of location we were looking for. A bit of texture, dirt and old buildings paired with plenty of passersby whom fortunately made quick appearances in our shots.
Congratulations Kali & Jason – thank you for sharing your engagement session and love story with us! A special thanks again to Megan Noonan Photography for sharing her images via Two Bright Lights.

The “what seemed to be an old deli car” is the old Capital City Diner that used to be on Bladensburg Road. Guess no one recognizes the poor old thing anymore. :(
I THOUGHT that was the diner – sadly, I never got to see it in action. That IS sad that it’s not recognized :(
