I get a TON of engagement submissions almost every week, and it’s realllllly difficult sometimes to turn submissions away because they don’t have that extra ‘something’. I believe that every couples’ love story deserves to be shared – but in the blog business, it’s just not feasible to feature every single one I get sent my way. So I try my hardest to find ones that have the most personality; that extra something special; that image that makes the couple’s love almost infectious.
Well, such is the case with today’s Old Town Alexandria engagement session from Megan Evans Photography. It features a gorgeous couple, Tracie & Tricia, a ton of laughter, some magazine-worthy portraits, and a beautiful love story.
Megan shares the reason for their engagement session location choice:
Tracie & Tricia had their first date at the Starbucks on King Street in Old Town Alexandria, so we went back to the beginning for their engagement session. They used the pictures of the Starbucks cups for their save-the-date cards! We had such fun finding different places to take pictures and these two never stopped smiling and laughing! I can’t wait for their March wedding.

About the couple:
Tracie works in sales in the Hotel Industry and Tricia works in social services for The State of Maryland. Tracie is originally from Denver, CO and moved to North Bethesda, Maryland in 2005 and Tricia is originally from South Jersey, near the Delaware boarder and to moved to Columbia, Maryland in 2007. The happy couple now reside together in Suitland, Maryland with their dog Whiskey and enjoy a wide variety of outdoor activities including camping, running 5Ks for different organizations, walking the Smithsonian museums and taking day trips to the regions many historical sites.
How they met:
We met on an online dating site and immediately hit it off after exchanging a few emails over the Memorial Day weekend of 2012. It did not take long to agree that we wanted to meet face to face and get tor know each other further. Tricia was at home with family for the holiday weekend and it was through text messaging and a couple of phone conversations that we decided we simply had to meet in person. So we set a date to meet at a local Starbucks, the perfect location for two people who loved coffee, great conversation and even a well timed joke or two to break the tension. The rest, as they say, was history.

The proposal story:
Considering we met in a coffee shop, Tracie wanted to make the proposal part of that event. She made two coffee mugs by hand. One saying “Will you marry me?” and the other saying “Just say yes!” She decided to do this at our apartment the weekend that I moved in and although that wasn’t the original timing, she just felt the moment was the right time. It was perfect! I came home from work she said she had a surprise for me and asked me to close my eyes. She set everything up on the kitchen counter, I could feel her excited energy all around me. Finally, the time came when she told me I could open my eyes.
My first reaction, at quick glance, was that she had bought us coffee mugs to represent us moving in together. This was a nice thought absolutely. I looked up at Tracie, who was just calming smiling at me, knowing it would take me a minute to slowly read the mugs one at a time and allow the words to sink it. I re-read them one at a time and my mind finally grasped the enormity of what I was reading! And then I saw the engagement ring sitting in the open box between the two mugs and I was on cloud nine! I immediately felt the tears welling up in my eyes, tears of joy that the woman I loved wanted to marry me! Of course I said yes!
She had designed the ring herself with a custom jeweler using our birth stones, Celtic knots (I am Irish of course), and the most perfect diamond.r So much thought was put into it and I really could not believe that we were now engaged. Tracie slipped the ring on to my finger and the smile on her face told me she too was on the same cloud nine as I.
Congratulations Tracie & Tricia! Thank you both for sharing your beautiful love story & engagement session with us! A special thanks also to Megan Evans Photography for sharing her images with us via Two Bright Lights!
