“Joe and Naomi called to book me ten days before their wedding. Technically, they weren’t even engaged yet as Joe hadn’t proposed, but they knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together.”
And so opened photographer Rachael Foster‘s submission to me for Naomi & Joe’s intimate DC wedding. I felt like I didn’t need to know anything else, a couple that plans their DC wedding in 2 weeks sounds like the kind of couple I want to feature – a wedding that was mostly about the marriage and less about the reception details. Yes please!
But just because the timeline was short, doesn’t mean this DC wedding wasn’t gorgeous. Bridesmaids in mismatched purple dresses, a bride with a stunning vintage hairstyle & birdcage veil, and a unique & beautiful (I mean beautiful) bouquet made for a beautiful feature.

From the photographer, Rachael Foster Photography:
Joe and Naomi called to book me ten days before their wedding. Technically, they weren’t even engaged yet as Joe hadn’t proposed, but they knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. Originally, they planned to have a judge marry them with a few witnesses present, but when they announced their intentions, friends and family begged to be included.
Thus, they put together their beautiful wedding day in under two weeks (and Joe did finally propose–exactly seven days before the wedding).
On Naomi’s stunning bouquet:
Our florist was the Enchanted Florist in Old Town. They were amazing and were willing to work on a short time frame and a budget. I chose the bouquet (from pics online) and they were able to recreate it beautifully.
From the bride, Naomi on their DC wedding venue selection:
Joe was really central in choosing the venue. It was his first choice for wedding venues based on the location – we both are into politics etc and the venue had a lot of culture and the character of DC that we wanted in our wedding.

On planning a wedding in two weeks:
Despite the time frame of the wedding we were able to pull everything together and everything turned out better than we could have imagined. We did not hire a DJ; which was perfectly fine since we were able to choose a theme on pandora to entertain our guests during the reception. In addition we also did the wedding march and the music for our procession on music that was downloaded to my iPad.
My nephew graciously agreed to play and stop the music at the appropriate times and it worked out perfectly. The only regret I have is that we didn’t videotape the ceremony – but thanks to Rachael, we have great memories through our photos.
And now for some beautiful portraits down by the Mall in DC.
God, I LOVE how happy they are in these pictures!
Congratulations Naomi & Joe! Thank you for sharing your beautiful, intimate DC wedding with us! A special thanks again to Rachael Foster Photography & Two Bright Lights for making this feature possible!
