This is one of those features where words seems to escape me, because I am just in AWE of the awesomeoness. To many of you, the wedding will look familiar. Well that’s because one of the images [of the STUNNING bride Lili] actually covered the front page of this year’s 2013Â Washingtonian Bride & Groom Magazine.
I cannot thank Love By Serena for submitting this amazing Washington, DC area wedding to us [via Two Bright Lights]. The bride was inspired by Audrey Hepburn and the couple both LOVE Disney ~ which is why they settled on a wedding theme designed to be an homage to Alice in Wonderland’s Tea Party.
Lili & Andrew’s Alice in Wonderland Mad Hatter Tea Party Inspired Maryland Wedding
About the couple & their offbeat MD wedding from photographer, Love by Serena:
Lili and Andrew are both photographers. They met at college and they are one of the most darling couples we have ever come across. Not to mention, everything about their wedding fit them 100% – the custom dress + tux, the adorable details, the 18-piece live swing band, the gorgeous location… (oh – and the fact that this was a green wedding).
Both Andrew and Lili are lovers of vintage (especially old movies + music) and Disney. In fact, they both currently reside in Florida – just a drive away from Disney World (a location they had considered getting married at, but decided to have the wedding closer to where Lili grew up).

The couple shares details on their wedding attire:
“As for the dress: I am very retro, and I can turn into a fussy 2 year old if made to lug a 100 lb dress around all day. I have always known I wanted a tea length dress – very Grace Kelley in High Society.
Andrew’s tux was from London because he wanted to look like himself. In Europe they have very tailored guys suits (the “mod look”) and they fit him perfectly.”
And now, the infamous front page cover shot!!!
Lili’s bridal look was inspired by Audrey Hepburn.
Additionally, her dress wasn’t originally the tea-length dress it was on her wedding day. She actually had the gown shortened for the occasion. Â She told us that it took several attempts to find someone who was bold enough to cut and alter the dress, as a lot of alteration places just wouldn’t risk such a huge change.
The couple shares their idea on the Alice in Wonderland inspired tea party theme:
“We chose to do the Alice & Wonderland Mad Hatter’s Tea Party ‘homage.’ We saw our marriage as jumping down the rabbit hole together, like a great adventure, inviting our guests to join us for the ride (thus the flashlights and bunnies)!  We chose the venue because 100% of the fees you pay to Brookside go to the upkeep of the gardens. Our caterer was a “green caterer” too so we liked that.”
All of the floral combinations at the reception were completely different. All were placed in a variety of different teacups or vases.
What a beautiful way to honor their deceased love ones at their reception:
Empty vintage flatware (along with an old framed photo) was placed at an empty table, as a memorial to family members that had passed away.
“Follow the White Rabbit” lit bags were placed along the path so guests could make their way to either the restrooms or the parking lot, without losing their way.
AMAZING right!? I love love love all the “white rabbit” details and hints at the tea party from Alice in Wonderland. What a stunning wedding ~ a special thanks again to Love by Serena for sharing with us!
