Back to the grind this week – with an extremely awesome Washington, DC engagement session to set the mood for what is going to be a SUPER busy week. I am taking some training today and tomorrow up in Silver Spring [getting my feet wet with InDesign – super pumped about it], having a long overdue dinner with a fab friend, AND I have my very first meeting with a couple to talk about possibly coordinating their Northern Virginia wedding next June (!!!!).
But, enough about me, back to Tyler & Chelsea. Thanks to Virgina wedding photographer, Sarah Lee Williams Photography, I get to share some pretty rad pictures of a gorgeous couple, having fun in Washington, DC for their engagement shoot. The couple has a great love story and a surprise proposal that is sure to get your heart fluttering this Monday morning.
Chelsea & Tyler’s Washington DC Engagement Session
How they met:
Tyler and Chelsea met when they were 19 in the spring of 2009 in Virginia Beach. She and her mother are Jazzercise instructors there, and Tyler was taking a weight training class through school that was held at their center. One afternoon, Chelsea and her mom stopped by the center just to check on a microphone, and Tyler was there before his class started.
Neither Tyler or Chelsea’s mom, Jan, have ever met a stranger, so they hit it off immediately. Chelsea and Tyler both inquired about each other to the weight training instructor (who was also a Jazzercise instructor), but nothing developed for a couple weeks. Finally, Chelsea decided to just “stop by” again during one of his classes, and they exchanged numbers and quickly became inseparable!
They both could tell right away that their connection was different, and knew that it was going to be something amazing.

The proposal story:
Chelsea grew up in Louisville, KY (“Derby City”) before moving with her family to Virginia Beach, VA in 2003. Every year in April, Thunder Over Louisville takes place to kick off the Kentucky Derby Festival. This is one of the largest fireworks displays in the world, and during the day there is an air show and many other festivities.
Chelsea, Tyler, and her family went to Louisville for this event and spent the day at a private party with friends with the best seats in the house! Though Tyler asked her dad’s permission to marry her back in January, he kept his plans secret to propose during the fireworks’ finale! He asked one of Chelsea’s closest family friends, Lisa, for help. She found a freelance photographer that was taking pictures of the event, and he secretly caught the big moment.
During the finale, Tyler got down on one knee, and Chelsea quickly (through tears) said “Yes!”
Time for a little fro-yo!
In August 2011 Tyler joined the Air Force. After Basic Training, he was selected for the USAF Honor Guard and moved to DC. Chelsea is finishing up her nursing degree and is living in Virginia Beach, until their wedding next summer when she will join him in the nation’s Capital.
They love country music and are always dancing (even while walking through the streets of DC)!
See: proof of spontaneous dancing next.
Love this tidbit about their upcoming wedding ~ sounds like my kind of wedding :)
They want to have the kind of wedding where guests leave with a smile and have an awesome time!
Congratulations Chelsea & Tyler ~ thank you so much for sharing your love story with us! A special thanks again to Sarah Lee Williams Photography for sharing the images to this Washington, DC engagement session feature.

They look like they had so much fun. Beautiful session! :)
Also, I’m now craving some frozen yogurt. Mmhmm.
What a beautiful session! I love that the photography isn’t too fussy and they looked as if they had a blast doing the shoot. Beautiful backdrops + a beautiful couple = beautiful pictures.
