Anytime my gmail notification tells me I have a submission via Two Bright Lights from Rebekah J. Murray Photography, my heart skips a beat. Rebekah’s photography skills are not easily matched – and the weddings she shoots? Well they make my heart sing, and reaffirm my belief that the DC metro area CAN be offbeat & unique when it comes to weddings.

Rebekah has already allowed me to feature Natalie & Stewart’s whimsical, balloon- filled Virginia wedding [with some serious awesome water gun appearances] and Tiffany & Jimmy’s Vintage Maryland wedding [with that gorgeous tea-length lace dress & blue vintage VW getaway car!]. Now I get to share the amazingness that is:

Taylor & Stewart’s handmade, yellow & green DIY Frederick, MD wedding!

I have SO many gorgeous images from this shoot to share & all the handmade & DIY details from the bride, Taylor, that the second part of this feature will be shared tomorrow! Take it away Taylor:

My husband Stuart and I met in 2008, my last year of my undergrad as we were both psychology major’s and had a class together. We started dating the semester after, and quickly became best friends, and still are. :)

He is currently working on his master’s in Marriage & Family Human Services, and I just recently completed my master’s in Professional Counseling. We have two fantastic dogs, a black lab and a german shepherd, and live in Lynchburg, VA.

We are both happy, fun loving people and planned the wedding as one big giant party!

love Taylor’s unique, handmade lace bridal hairpiece

Taylor shares the details on her wedding dress ~ from a secondhand store! [love]:

I bought my dress at a second hand [wedding] dress shop in Lynchburg, VA, – Church Street Bridal – and it happened to be a kleinfeld gown!

My mom’s friend embellished it for me in such a perfect way with a little lace and a whimsical flower, and hairpiece to match.

A bride in flats is a thing I ALWAYS love. So practical [a girl after my own heart] & Taylor shared:

I wore multi-colored Steve Madden flats that were just adorable in my opinion ;)

I couldn’t agree more ;)

My favorite colors are green and yellow, so it was easy to make these work with a late spring wedding.

Stuart’s mom works at a florist and hand made my bouquet for me.

love Taylor’s simple, natural-looking bridal makeup. Her face is just radiating natural beauty!

And off she goes for her first look!!

Click inside to see the rest of this adorable “first look” image sequence:

just look at Stuart’s face!!! i’m tearing up over here :)

i love this shot of them walking hand in hand back to the wedding to begin the ceremony.

This concludes Part 1 of Stuart & Taylor’s DIY Frederick, MD wedding ~ you won’t want to miss Part 2 tomorrow – which has a ton of their DIY projects & more green & yellow wedding inspiration!

A special thanks again to Rebekah J. Murray & Two Bright Lights for making this submission possible!

  2. Yes it was a wonderful wedding and a DIY to a point. I need to compliment and recommend the caterer for the rehearsal lunch. A.K.A Friscos of Frederick ,MD. did a fabulous job. With one phone call and only four days notice they provided abundant excellent healthy luncheon fare for 100, delivered and set up on time w/plates & cups. Should anyone need a caterer in the Frederick Md area I highly recommend them. Lane Hiers, Father of the Groom
