Maria & Russell’s DC Engagement Session at Theodore Roosevelt Island
A little about the couple:
My name is Maria and my fiance’s name is Russell. We met in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2005 while working at P.F. Chang’s. We were coworkers and friends for a while and began dating in the summer of 2006. In early 2007, we moved to Washington, DC and earlier this year we moved into our own home in Falls Church.

The Proposal:
Russell proposed on October 15, 2011 on Roosevelt Island. If you can recall, last year’s fall was cold and rainy… nothing like fall weather is supposed to be. The weather forecast for that Saturday was sunny and warm so Russell suggested we go on a picnic. Since he drives by Roosevelt island on his way to work everyday, he wanted to have the picnic there. Neither one of us had been there so I thought it would be nice to go someplace new. That morning he went to the store and bought goodies for our picnic and we head out to Roosevelt Island. As it turned out, we weren’t the only ones excited to be outside in such gorgeous weather and the parking lot was full. Finally we found a parking spot and walked over to the island. We found a nice secluded area behind the monument and laid out our picnic. After we ate, Russell said “I have something for you” and handed me a cardboard box. I opened it and inside there was a sterling silver fortune cookie–since we met working at a Chinese food restaurant–and the fortune inside said “will you marry me.” When I looked up, Russell was on one knee holding the ring out in front of me. I shouted “of course I will!” and then we were engaged.
